If we really want to live a joyful, connected and meaningful life, we must talk about things that get in the way
— Brené Brown

Hello. I'm Mandy Casurella.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Supervisor in the State of Alaska. My professional career in counseling began in 2004 when I moved to Anchorage, Alaska. I have enjoyed working in various clinical settings in Anchorage, which has provided me with a breadth of experience in areas of crisis stabilization and psychotherapy. In addition, several years spent living and working cross-culturally in Madagascar and France have enriched my life and work.

In my private practice I see adults and adolescents for individual therapy. I use a compassionate and integrative approach in psychotherapy, tailoring sessions to the needs of each client. I enjoy working from an insight oriented approach, and draw from theoretical foundations in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Neurobiology and the integration of psychology and theology.

I have specialized training in Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Gottman's Couples Therapy and Mindfulness. In addition, I provide Emotion Coaching, a research-based Gottman method for teaching children to self regulate their behavior and emotions.

I earned a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology and a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. Degrees aside, learning never ends. My license requires 40 hours of continuing education every 2 years. This is not difficult to surpass given my love of learning and the vast and expanding fields of psychology, well-being and growth and development across the life span.
